1200 M² OF TEMPO WALL : PERFORMANCE AND DISCRETION IN THE MULTI PURPOSE ROOM OF LA BARROISE

The Multi purpose room of la Barroise in Bar-le-Duc was designed for all kind of events: concerts, fairs, comedy shows, sports events. Therefore a perfect acoustic comfort is obviously necessary for the various configurations

THE ARCHITECT

” This is one of the only theatres in France made entirely of wooden structure. This ambitious construction technique gives it a touch of modernity.
It was therefore very important to enhance the lightness of the structure with high-performant acoustic treatment.
The technique used is simple, without any acoustic shells, and still very effective. I have had positive feedback right from the very first events that have taken place there.
Colour neutrality is a necessary requirement for the most audacious stage lighting.”

THE ACOUSTICIAN

“As far as acoustics are concerned, this modular designed room is a real challenge.
The architect planned a concrete base that will be shock resistant when installing the stands, and at ear level this very hard material generates reverberations.
During the studying phase, I recommended to alternately use 2 types of absorbants over the height of the walls. Fibrous materials which are effective over the entire sound frequency spectrum, and wooden diaphragms, which would rather absorb bass.
After analysis to define where the different treatments had to be placed, the aesthetics remained to be worked on, and I thought of stretched fabric. We then had discussions with TEMPO to optimise the design and it came out that the pattern formed by wooden frames for the absorbants used for the implementation also allowed the architect to create a two-colour layout.
We didn’t lay a nude fabric, as I had imagined, but TEMPO wall fabric + wadding. Using the Decowest installation system saved us a lot of time.
When we carried out the measurements at the final acceptance of the construction work, we noted a reverberation of 0.8 seconds over the whole spectrum in the entire hall with tiered seating.
This neutral and homogenous reverberation gives sound engineers the freedom to sound different types of events without affecting the sound quality.”

THE INSTALLER

” I knew TEMPO but not their stretched wall fabric. A few square metres of model allowed us to practice and master the implementation. The architect could validate the quality of the strips connections. The installation went well despite of the work on lifting platforms due to the great heights. The interesting point is the good shape of the fabric which is easy to unroll and handle. TABACCHI and us were very proud to have made the biggest local building job of the year.”

THE DISTRIBUTOR

I recommend TEMPO because I know that my “customers-installers” will be well supported. For the 1200 m² of La Barroise a precise and detailed quantiy was given from the quotation, it enabled local companies to properly compete for the tender. Throughout the construction there were good exchanges between the architect’s team, my clients, the whole TEMPO team and me. No questions remained unsolved. A real great job.”
